On September 27, 2024, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) published the ‘National Infrastructure and Transport Report – Years 2022-2023’ (CNIT 2022-2023), prepared by the Ministry’s Statistics Office, Directorate General for Digitalization, with the collaboration of sector experts from Offices, Departments, and Directorates General of the Ministry, other Public Administrations, ISTAT, Companies, Enterprises, Entities, and Research Institutes.
The CNIT highlights, along with the results of the usual sector surveys and analyses, additional and new information on infrastructure, transport, and sustainable mobility.
It consists of an introductory section, 15 Chapters (this year’s edition includes a specific Chapter on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – PNRR), and an extensive Appendix, which contains more detailed statistics.
Among the topics covered, particular emphasis is placed on:
· statistics and data series related to added value, intermediate costs, labor units, incomes, wages, household expenses, energy use, environmental tax revenue, prices, enterprises, elaborated in relation to the evolution of the main economic activities, gross domestic product, and other aggregates of national economic accounts;
· for transport, data, statistics, and indicators related to infrastructure, vehicles, passenger and freight traffic by mode of transport, the automobile market, driving licenses and exam results, local public transport, mobility demand and supply, and urban mobility indicators, shipbuilding, public funding and private sector expenses, road, maritime, rail, and air accidents, sustainable infrastructure and mobility by mode of transport, other externalities resulting from transport;
· for infrastructure, public works, housing policies, and national and European sector programs, nationally significant infrastructure works, road and rail networks, ports, interports, and airports, trans-European transport networks, water networks, dams, and network service infrastructure, structural characteristics of public works, the trend of the construction sector, building abuse, urban redevelopment and sustainable territorial development programs, national operational infrastructure and network programs, etc.
