The European Declaration on Cycling Mobility has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
The declaration begins as follows:
“We intend to harness the full potential of cycling mobility in the EU. The declaration recognizes that cycling mobility is one of the most sustainable, accessible, and inclusive forms of transport and leisure, low-cost and healthy, and acknowledges its fundamental importance for European society and economy. The declaration should serve as a strategic compass for current and future policies and initiatives on cycling mobility.”
The principles it appeals to are:
Chapter I – Development and strengthening of cycling mobility policies
Chapter II – Encouragement of inclusive, healthy, and affordable mobility
Chapter III – Creation of more and better cycling infrastructure
Chapter IV – Increase in investments and establishment of favorable conditions for cycling mobility
Chapter V – Increase in road safety
Chapter VI – Support for high-quality jobs and the development of a world-class European cycling mobility industry
Chapter VII – Support for multimodality and cycle tourism
Chapter VIII – Improvement of data collection on cycling mobility
This is a non-binding declaration for Member States, but it brings important concepts to the forefront of attention across Europe, including Italy, for the enhancement and development of sustainable mobility.
